Why Train in Cranbrook

The East Kootenays are one of Western Canada's most underserved foot care markets.

The opportunity in the East Kootenays

Cranbrook anchors the East Kootenay region — a vast area of southeastern BC that includes Kimberley, Fernie, Invermere, Sparwood, Elkford, and the surrounding rural communities. This region combines an established senior population with a growing recreation-and-retirement demographic, plus significant long-term care and rural healthcare demand that consistently outpaces the number of qualified Advanced Foot Care Nurses available.

Training with Shelley gives you something rare in Canadian foot care education: exposure to a team-based practice model. Most foot care nurses work solo — Shelley built Sole Relief to serve office, community, and long-term care settings across an entire region, which requires the systems, staffing, and clinical standards of a genuine multi-nurse operation. Students who want to eventually hire other nurses learn exactly how this model works from someone doing it successfully.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How long is the Advanced Foot Care Nurse course in Cranbrook?
The full program includes online theory completed at your own pace, plus hands-on clinical days with Shelley at Sole Relief. Most students complete the program within 1 to 8 weeks, though scheduling is flexible around your availability.
Do I need previous foot care experience?
No. The course is designed for nurses (RPN, RN, LPN) who are new to foot care nursing. We start with foundational theory and build from there.
Will I learn how to build a team-based practice?
Yes. Shelley operates one of the few genuine multi-nurse foot care practices in Western Canada, providing services across office, community, and long-term care settings. She'll share the systems, staffing, and clinical standards that make this scalable practice model work — invaluable if you plan to hire other nurses down the road.
What's the demand for foot care nurses in the East Kootenays?
Very strong. The East Kootenays combine an aging population, growing retirement-and-recreation demographics, and consistently few qualified Advanced Foot Care Nurses across a large rural geography. Qualified nurses can build a full caseload quickly, particularly those willing to serve LTC facilities and offer community-based visits.
